2016 4th Edition Stop Smart Meters! Brochures Now Available

Screen Shot 2016-02-02 at 11.01.42 AMFeb. 1st, 2016: StopSmartMeters.org has published the 2016 fourth edition (pdf) of our popular and educational smart meter awareness color brochures.

“Smart” meters are ticking time bombs; the smoking gun that has woken millions up to the health risks from wireless technology.

The cover of the brochure has been revised to present these hazards, as well as privacy violations, fire risks, and inflated costs.

You told us you wanted a brochure that was more visually representative of the problems with smart meters and specific about the difference between analog and digital. We feel we’ve achieved both aims, and can’t wait to get thousands more of these into people’s hands. Pick up a batch from the Stop Smart Meters! Online Store to hand out to your neighbors, today.

What’s new in the fourth edition:

  • A totally revised front cover, visually blunt and to-the-point about the inherent risks of smart meter technology
  • New graphic showing difference Screen Shot 2016-02-02 at 10.58.36 AMbetween “smart” and analog and detailed description of the types of “smart” meters (AMI, AMR, PLC, etc…)
  • Revised, basic action (to do) items
  • Revised “Path of Your Privacy” diagram, as well as updated sections on health and fire risks.

Copies are now available for purchase in the Stop Smart Meters! online store. Download the pdf here, image files are below.

The brochures are printed on 30% p.c.w. recycled matte paper by Community Printers, a union printer in Santa Cruz, CA who has been producing printed material for social justice movements for decades.  These are high quality, non-toxic prints, designed with the grassroots knowledge of hundreds of anti-smart meter activists around the world.

The brochures are global and can be distributed anywhere.   There is space on the back of the brochure to place an Avery address label, that you can customize with your local (advocacy group, utility and government) contact info.  Labels customized with your local info can be included with store orders upon request. Inquire about bulk rates.

If you have a low income and cannot afford to purchase and would like to distribute these brochures in your area, please contact us with your situation, and we may be able to provide copies, thanks to generous donors.  Likewise if you are able to support brochures being made available to low income areas, please donate today.

Distribute the brochures in your local area!  Farmer’s Markets and food stores are good places to hand them out.  You can also put a stack at friendly businesses, libraries, or community centers, and knock on doors in your neighborhood (leaving one on their door if they do not answer).  Organize a “smart meter free zone” in your neighborhood. Please do NOT put in USPS post boxes. Thanks for doing your part to get the word out!

Glad to see the movement coming together. I also like the flyer.

There’s an industry astroturfing project called the “Smart Grid Consumer Collaborative” that got some press on sites like HuffPo and EarthTechling by putting out a youtube video addressing the criticisms of smart meters at about a 3rd-grade level (although I’m not sure one could find a 3rd-grader that smarmy).

This was the first I’d heard of them, but apparently they’ve been in the disinformation business for a couple of years now (http://smartgridcc.org/press/in-the-news). Anyway, I have little doubt that someone with some investigative journalism skills could expose them as astroturf in pretty short order, and maybe get a little media attention doing it.

  2. Steven Darke says:

I have stopped SC Edison from installing a smart meter at my home but now they have sent me a letter ‘Certified Mail” and want me to sign an opt out form which authorizes them to charge me more each month for a number of services that I have received in the past at no charge. Are they able to do this legally and if I sign this form do I give up my rights to fight it later?

    • Paul H says:

Maybe send a certified letter to them saying that all your vitals have been documented and that any change due to microwave sickness they will be held financially responsible? Send them a legal document stating the cost they will responsible for. If you choose to do this document everything with a doctor. A common documented side affect will be high blood sugar levels. I can’t think of any other hard proof that could be tested. Insomnia starts the first night they transmit data. Headaches, tinittus, dizziness, calf cramps, sweating the bed, heart palpitations, memory loss to the point where you don’t know where you placed your car keys, brain fog, and coughing to the point of blacking out are all difficult to document but are some of the regular complaints after a meter is installed. What is your price for high blood sugar, stroke, or heart attack? Their few dollars extra a month is peanuts compared to the side affects of the smart meter. My health is priceless. Did you know that a 2 minute cell phone call opens the blood brain barrier for up to 5 hours after? The smart meter emits the same radiation but is on 24/7. It’s not a coincidence that people all over the country are experiencing side affects from blood brain barrier breaches.

WE DON’T USE CELL PHONES NOR CABLE TV, ALL OF THIS IS DIRTY ELECTRICITY AND RADIATION,MOST THE MASS PUBLIC ARE GOING DEAF AND BLIND FROM BRAIN TUMORS AND BRAIN DAMAGE, ESPECIALLY CHILDREN AND ELDERLY,PLEASE STOP THE GADGETS,THEY ARE KILLING US ALL,THE POOR SACRED ANIMALS ARE EXTREMELY SENSITIVE TO HI-RADIONICS AND YET HUMANS CONTINUE THERE CELL PHONE AND I POD MADNESS, I DON’T USE TEXTING OR THAT EITHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!OPT ME OUT FOR CABLE, CELL PHONES AND HI TECH GADGETS,HUMANS ARE NOT MADE FOR HI-TECHNOLOGY,THE WHOLE RACE HAS BECOME ROBOTIC DUE TO THE PAST 3 GENERATIONS RAISED ON COMPUTERS,WHICH I MUST GET OFF NOW,EVEN THIS IS TOO MUCH RADIATION FOR ME,OPT FOR LIFE, OPT OUT FOR DEATH ENTRAPMENT MADE BY AND ENFORCED BY MILITARY DEPARTMENT,WAKAYA

    • Paul H says:

Send a separate letter certified to them and have them sign it. Remember that they are no longer delivering just 60 hertz to your appliances. I suspect that the smart meter can’t pass a UL listing due to this problem. The pulsed high frequency emitting from the meter rides on top of energized wiring. A line test with an oscilloscope will show the difference in frequencies. If you can afford to have a documented line test of before and after, this might help as the power company is not smart enough to understand biological affects of Rf radiation.

    • Paul H says:

I forgot to add that sending it certified to the CEO or highest official would be a good idea.

    • Jeremy says:

Here in SE Michigan they have installed one million plus meters and our public utilities seems to not even bat an eye over any of the concerns to health or privacy. These energy groups are really a sorry lot of people who are uneducated and goon like. Apparently they can do whatever they want until we learn to get off of their grid. So yeah, totally illegal but this is where our society is going until we either get off the grid or wake up collectively as a whole and retaliate. I think the flyer is awesome but needs a web link on the flyer.

  3. Pingback: The Path of Your Privacy: How the “SMART” METER MESH NETWORK really works |

  4. Redi Kilowatt says:

I liked the artist drawing about how the mesh network really works, but most of it is illegible .
I enjoyed seeing the marketers, terrorists, hackers and thieves being drawn in.
Of course, none of that is true, but the real thieves are PG&E.
Check out your recent bill, there is a list of charges that I don’t understand, here is a list on my most recent bill:
    Generation (I understand)
    Distribution (I understand)
Public Purpose Programs ? ( what is that ?, funding for propaganda and corporate trolls to post on these sites)
Nuclear Decommissioning ( I understand that, like the Humboldt Bay reactor is decommissioned but will need a crew there for the next 40 years at least)
    DWR Bond Charge (I understand)
Ongoing CTC ( I don’t know what that is, but it is miniscule)
Energy Cost Recovery Amount (I don’t know what that is)
Conservation Incentive Adjustment (that is a huge percentage of my bill, about 48 percent of the total. What is that about ? Is that a new thing tacked on to people who don’t have SmartMeters, or is it just general gouging from PG&E).
I would appreciate if some activists on this site could look into that hefty charge, and let us know “what it is” fo.

    • Richard says:

The “CIA” on my bill is a credit 🙂

I don’t claim to understand it, but “conservation incentive adjustment” does bring up some results on PG&E’s website. You might check those out.

      • Redi Kilowatt says:

        No thanks Richard,
I will not ever go to a PG&E site from my computer for any reason.
The only contact with PG&E that I have is a monthly bill, that is enough for me. But I will call them on my landline if they make a mistake on their charges, whether it is in my favor or not. I like to be on the up and up on all my bills.

        • Richard says:

“What is that about ? Is that a new thing tacked on to people who don’t have SmartMeters, or is it just general gouging from PG&E). I would appreciate if some activists on this site could look into that…”

You seem to have a lot to say, but you won’t look into your own question when provided the resource? Why not?

          • Redi Kilowatt says:

            Richard,

I know that anything done and anywhere visited on the internet is tracked, and I am not into being tracked.
For all I know about you, you could be a concern troll from PG&E trying to trick me into going to their site and looking up that Cost Initiative Adjustment online. Not many people do it.
When you say that the CIA is a credit on your PG&E bill and mine is a large debit instead, it really makes me wonder where you are coming from.
It seems like many people who post here are concerned about corporations tracking purchases and reporting them to law enforcement. They claim that somehow the SmartMeters do that, but that is technically impossible.
The way that people’s energy use is tracked is if they sign up with PG&E for an online account to view their previous electrical usage history.
Ordinarily, that information is not on the internet unless a customer requests it to be transferred over from the utility revenue assurance dept. Then, yes, hackers or law enforcement agencies could possibly hack into your computer and access all kinds of information that you have stored there, including any energy use history .
Another thing that I have seen posted here is that hackers can infiltrate power plants and cause terrorist events.
Well guess what ? The only terrorist act carried out on any power plant anywhere in the world once was a computer virus call SuxtNet that was planted at a nuclear power plant in Iran about 4 years ago and it was ordered by president Obama !
If anything would start a cyber war on electrical power grids would, that would be it. But that was four years ago, so if any nation was capable of retaliating for that cyber attack on a power plant they would have done so by now.
And if people are worried about their purchases being tracked, they should never use credit or debit cards. That is the only way purchases can be tracked. If one pays with cash (which is still legal), then there is no possible way that purchases can be tracked.

          • Richard says:

“For all I know about you, you could be a concern troll from PG&E trying to trick me…”

Yeah, I suppose that statement is true…But you can rest assured that I have absolutely no interest in you or anything about you other than trying to assist in answering a question posed by you on this site.

I would suggest that you relax, but from the content of your post (September 15, 2012 at 9:55 am), it sounds like you’ve got way too much to worry about to have a chance of relaxing.

            Good luck with all that.

  5. Redi Kilowatt says:

    Hi Richard,
The Conservation Incentive Adjustment on my bill is a charge on the list of charges.
I must add that it is the largest charge on the list, almost equal to the costs of generation and distribution combined.
Are you sure that yours is a credit ? Do you have a SmartMeter ?, I don’t , maybe that has something to do with it.

  6. Jim says:

I replaced an Edison Smart Meter with an analog meter I purchased from a link on this site and now Edison refuses to come out and read it. Twice they have been out to my house trying to reinstall another version of their Smart Meters telling me that my analog meter was not acceptable and threatening to turn off my power if I do not let them reinstall their meter.

The meter that Edison wanted to install and they also use in their opt out program is called the Landis+Gyr MX which is what they put on my house after I complained about the Smart Meter. I even signed up for their opt out program which was part of the deal to remove the Smart Meter. From what I understood Edison charges an extra monthly fee because they say they have to send some one out to read the meter. Not true. What I found out is this meter has an RF transmitting device in it along with being able to collect data. So why are they charging me a fee when they can read it remotely?

This I know they can do because one night I was relaxing watching TV when all of a sudden my ears just started ringing. I went over to where the Landis MX meter was that Edison installed and turned on the EMF detector that I had recently purchased and found that the Edison meter was transmitting big time for about 20 minutes.

After I found this out I was pretty pissed off and replaced the Landis MX meter with the one I bought from the link on this site. The Landis + Gyr MX is made up to look just like the old analog meter but beware it’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

I really do not understand why companies like Edison can intentionally lie, harass and intimidate people like they do and get away with it.

  7. Redi Kilowatt says:

Sorry, I misspelled the name of the virus, the right spelling is: Stuxnet.
It was developed by the CIA and reportedly was smuggled into a nuclear enrichment facility in Iran on thumb drives by CIA operants.
No, it had nothing at all to do with SmartMeters, or the mesh radio network that they call the SmartGrid, such an act is not possible using SmartMeters.
I do wonder who is behind the funding of this CCSSM brochure ? It looks a lot like one put out by Landis+Gyr !

  8. john says:

since we moved into our current home our PGE bill shows a straight line increase between April to Sept. Compared to the average usage of 100 similar homes we are 2.5 times as much and the graph showing usage does not fluctuate AT ALL over 6 months for seasonal shifts in use like all the other useser. I believe the “smart meter” is at fault. The meter fluctuates energy (watts) usage 1600 kwt without anyone in the home, appliances are unplugged or use gas. How is this POSSIBLE???

  9. Redi, here’s your non-PG&E, super-easy-to-understand CIA link:

    http://blog.genability.com/2012/07/pge-residential-rates-get-a-new-tier/

Looks like there is no gradient to the tiers though… 130% or less of “baseline” usage and you get a credit, 131% or more of baseline and your kWh rate nearly doubles. This should actually encourage people to watch their usage, but obviously you don’t need a wireless digital meter to earn the credit.

Sorry Redi, Richard get’s the efficiency award.

I’ve been wondering why my bill has been going up when I am doing the best to conserve that I can.. Then I realize this “Conservation Incentive Adjustment” on my last two bills for $144.57 and $151.00 !!! Am I to understand that as a longtime customer I am being penalized to the tune of $300 dollars over the past two months with no notice, and no description of said ‘fee’ attached!?! I am sooo livid. This is not a credit!!! It’s like a fine/ticket fee for patronizing their shady business. My bill would have been around 300 dollars per month if not for this. My home is totally energy efficient by appliance standards. I am ready to choke someone.

Hey, everyone! Order these brochures, they are totally awesome. Full color and professionally designed, very effective. They cover the privacy, billing, fire dangers, health, and security issues with graphics and lots of info. Then, they tell you what you can do. A perfect brochure to use as an educational anti-smart meter flyer to show people the problems and how to opt-out, etc. Very comprehensive. Very good response to them, too. I have ordered 900 so far. I encourage EVERYONE in CA to get some of these brochures and pass them out far and wide. Order them as above in the article. People ordering this week may be able to get some for the week of Oct 4th (National Day of Action Against Smart Meters), or the week after. Blanket your neighborhood with information to get rid of the blanket of radiation!

    Hello,
I am new to this site and this fight but feel very strongly against having this forced on us. I do not have a smartmeter yet and live in PA Bucks County. We have Peco and I was wondering if anyone has or knows any info specificly to PECO of what to do to op out… Is there certain person I should contact, or just send a letter to the corp office?
A friend just told me she got a letter stating Peco was going to install a smart meter at her home. Any info would be most helpful and thanks in advance.

  18. John Puccetti says:

I have solar panels and we already had a TOU meter. We opted out and have not yet been charged the penalty or monthly fee. After reading on DR. Megda Havas PHD Trent University Website Canada that ambient microwaves can cause some analog meters to read higher than actual usage. I covered mine with aluminum mesh and my monthly bill has been cut in half two months in a row. Do not do this with a smart meter.
